City Wedding – Laura & Gav (part1)

July seems so long ago now, back when the weather was nice, the sun was shining and wedding photographers run around all day wishing they had an IV drip of Pimms!

In July I was lucky enough to photograph the wedding of Laura & Gav. One of the most chilled out couples I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I had photographed them (and their amazing dog Percy) prior to the wedding on a couple shoot which I do for all of my couples. They chose one of the most interesting backdrops for their images which also gives you some insight into the ‘cool couple’ impression I always get from them! The Custard Factory Birmingham.

I have known Laura and Gavin for  couple of years as they live just around the corner from me in Bearwood, Birmingham. They have been customers at our family shop (gift & gardening) since moving to the area. As soon as I was introduced to Percy the sausage dog I was smitten… and realised they were, like me ‘dog parents’.

So when they approached me to photograph their wedding I was over the moon!

Bride prep for Laura was with Make-up and hair by Gemma at Salon G in Bearwood, just a stones throw from her house, family and friends filled the Salon, getting ready, the prosecco was flowing, bacon sarnies were provided by the salon owner, Gemma…and were a God send!

Gifts were cooed over and cried on by Laura who by this point, had realised it was her wedding day and the love from all her closest friends was obvious for us all to see.

Laura’s make-up was beautifully applied by MUA, Gemma Howard-Masters, eye lashes secured – then it was across the road and back home to see Percy before heading to  church in Harborne.

Beautiful Bride Laura arrived in my favourite car, a fabulous Morris Minor!

The service was held at St Peter’s Church, a very impressive Grade 2 listed Victorian building.

part two of Laura & Gav’s wedding coming soon….

Dudley Register Office Wedding – Mandy & Craig

A very sunny day back in June, I had the absolute pleasure of capturing the wedding ceremony of Mandy & Craig at Dudley Register Office.

Mandy & Craig are simply made for each other, so warm and fun loving…and both with a passion for all things Jack Daniels!

Surrounded by family and friends they were married in front of a beautiful window casting perfect light over both of them.

Once outside, the sun beamed down for the photographs. I captured a few images of family and friends,

Group shots are a must on every wedding and Mandy & Craig’s family made it run really smoothly!

Lastly on my list for the day were some images for the couple before they headed off to join their guests at their reception…we turned to the Priory Ruins and Priory Garden for the shots.

It was a pleasure to photograph Mandy & Craig’s ceremony for them and since the wedding they have become friends of mine. Love’em to bits! Sam x

Warley Woods, perfect studio…

When I decided to launch my photography business I had no idea what my niche would or could be. I knew I loved to photograph people after spending so much time learning about photography and taking part in photoshoots at Fotofilia Studios in Birmingham.

I knew I had to do something different to ‘studio based model photoshoots’ not having a studio of my own or the very expensive lighting equipment at the time. I began to use my local woods, Warley Woods to photograph product or for my various ‘fun shoots’ with local collaborators Make-up and Hair by Gemma and Hannah belle Hair Accessories.

Warley Woods is a stunning open space, meadow, woodland, wilderness, originally designed by Humphry Repton, opened to the public in 1906 Warley Woods is the very heart of Bearwood (Smethwick) life. Maintained by a board of Trustees and supported through charitable donations, the area would be at a loss without it.

Bluebelle
One of my favourite images from my Family portrait sessions.

Purely by accident I stumbled upon my niche… after posting some images I had taken in the Woods from various fun shoots, I was asked to photograph a family, using the Woods as the studio. It was fantastic! Once the family kindly shared the images, Facebook did its thang… and boom ‘Rose and Rainbow Warley Woods Family Photoshoots’ were the mainstay of my new little business.

All sorts of interesting trees means that no two shoots are the same…

From Spring until Autumn I could often be seen stalking the woods with my camera with parents and children..coaxing with bribes such as ‘one more photo then we will be at the play equipment’ (always works that one)

Natural light is timeless.

I decided to donate £10 from every Family shoot taken in Warley Woods, as mentioned they rely on Charitable donations to keep the Woods looking as good as they do. My families all love the Woods, which is why they choose to have their portraits taken there. I think part of the reason I get booked is because I recognise that its only right that if the Woods is helping me make a living, it should get a donation.

So its with a great big thank you to Warley Woods for being so beautiful and just up the road from me and for giving me my ‘niche’. With a diary full of bookings for Spring 2017, I can’t wait to get started!

Relaxed, natural and candid Wedding Photography

Recently I have been advertising my wedding packages online using social media however the nicest surprise has been that 60% of next years bookings and 100% of my bookings for 2018, so far- have been from personal recommendations from previous clients.

My photography style is relaxed, I prefer candid images as I believe these best reflect the real emotions of the day. Obviously posed shots have their place in wedding albums, in order to showcase smaller details and capturing all of the guests in group shots etc.

When asked about my editing, I prefer to spend full weeks editing each collection. I wouldn’t be satisfied with an album which looks as if the photographer had batch edited to save time. My couples hire me to capture their day AND to edit and present them, perfectly.

After all its all about the couple, if you choose a photographer who has your style and pride in their images, it shouldn’t be all about the money. Photography is the only way you can revisit and relive your day, memories to last a lifetime.

Baby Shoot

I spent a very enjoyable hour with an old friend of mine who had recently had a beautiful baby daughter… Elena Jane

Mum was tired yet totally smitten and Dad was proud as punch. Already saying no boyfriends until she’s 40!

I took the pictures as a congratulations present for Elena’s parents and I hope when they see the finished pictures they will be over the moon….

Why I love live music!

Last week I was lucky enough to catch the band Telsen at Route 44 in Accocks Green. This band has a sound all of their own! I suppose you could compare them to REM, just a lot more current and fun!

This gig was to be the first one with new band mates Abi and Phil. Abi’s voice complimented Nick’s brilliantly and bought something new to some of the original songs I have heard before. Nick as always had the audience eating out of his hands with his fantastic voice and stage presence and Abi’s sound was a perfect addition. Phil on keyboard brought something extra to the sound produced by the super talented trio, Karl M, David R and Richard B making the sound deeper.

Overall the gig was really fantastic, full of high energy sounds and was enjoyed by the whole room….watch these guys!

It’s Super Saturday…

Bob my friend you have managed to find such a wonderful picture of me I’m sure it will everyone flocking to the shop. 😊
